DESCRIPTION:
A level 2 trauma hospital is faced with complex trauma cases which are often treated using NPWT for temporary abdominal closure (TAC). TAC allows the abdomen to be kept open to manage complications of soft tissue trauma, sepsis, and abdominal compartment syndrome. Trauma Surgeon, Dr. Aimee Sundeen will discuss her experiences and clinical outcomes for trauma patients requiring the use of NPWT for temporary abdominal closure.     
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  • Define the clinical goal of temporary abdominal closure (TAC)
  • Review the general principles for choosing Negative Pressure Wound Therapy (NPWT)  
  • Review clinical case series with the use of NPWT for temporary abdominal closure

TARGET AUDIENCE:
This Course is designed for Clinicians who are responsible for the prevention of skin breakdown throughout the continuum of care, such as, ICU, Acute Care, Long Term Care, LTACHs, Home Health Care, as well as Physicians, DPMs, Nurses, PTs and Caregivers who treat Chronic & Acute Wounds.
